smoke-free regulations covering indoor work-places in england, including bars, clubs , restaurants, came force on 1 july 2007. places, such smoking hotel rooms, nursing homes, prisons, submarines, offshore oil rigs, , stages/television sets (if needed performance) exempted, royal palaces, although members of house of commons , house of lords agreed ban smoking in palace of westminster.
the on-the-spot fine smoking in workplace £50 (~€60/~$75), £30 (~€35/~$45) if 1 pays within 15 days, while business allows smoking can fined £2,500 (~€3,700/~$3,800). smoking largely remains permitted outdoors, apart railway stations. however, internal government briefing obtained independent on sunday newspaper reveals powers available extend coverage further outdoor areas if required.
a legal loophole exists cigar smokers allowed smoke in store sample cigar in england only.
