college career

elflein redshirted first year @ ohio state in 2012 due foot injury. elflein 1 of 2 starters returning in 2015 , served captain 2016 season, senior season in won rimington trophy , finalist outland trophy. graduated communications degree , finished career graduate student, , prior receiving degree, earned 3 osu scholar-athlete awards , 1 academic all-big ten conference honor. first-team all-big ten in each of final 3 seasons.

freshman season (2013)

as redshirt freshman in 2013, elflein earned first varsity letter playing in 14 games reserve offensive lineman when corey linsley buckeyes’ senior center. on september 21, played 57 snaps on offense in buckeyes overwhelming win on florida a&m , had several series worth of offensive snaps against penn state , purdue before being called in play 3 quarters against michigan in week 12. play against wolverines in one-point win earned him start in big ten championship game against michigan state.

sophomore season (2014)

elflein earned first of 3 first-team all-big ten seasons sophomore, starting 15 games including 2015 college football playoff national championship. opened season @ left guard , started first 3 games there, moved right guard final 12 games, helping lead buckeyes top 10 national ranking in rushing on 264 yards per game , offensive line teammates paved way ezekiel elliott become first running in school history rush 200 yards in consecutive games. offense outstanding around, school records touchdowns (90), points scored (637), passing yards (3,707) , passing touchdowns (42) well.

junior season (2015)

in junior campaign, elflein started 13 games @ right guard spot buckeye squad finished 12-1 , capped season 44-28 win on notre dame in fiesta bowl. received second-team all-american status associated press (ap) , sports illustrated dominant play. named first-team all-big ten conference second consecutive year league’s head coaches , media helped pave way ohio state lead big ten in rushing @ 245.2 yards per game , finish second in conference in scoring , third in total offense.

senior season (2016)

prior senior year in 2016, elflein handled position switch, moving guard center position fifth-year senior, aplomb, starting 13 games buckeyes. ended garnering rimington trophy nation’s top center , helping ohio state make college football playoff semifinals. elflein 1 of 3 finalists outland trophy , won pace big ten offensive linemen of year. elflein named rimington–pace offensive lineman of year , first team all-big ten selection in 2016. along malik hooker, became first pair of buckeye teammates named consensus all-americans in same year since orlando pace , eddie george in 1995.
