dundee established in 1879 when st. paul , sioux city railway company built branch line, known heron lake & black hills railroad. first station out of heron lake proposed in extreme northeastern corner of nobles county, , named warren, in honor of joseph warren fell @ battle of bunker hill. town surveyed , platted in july 1879, , construction of depot began on august 13. mr. g. foils moved town , assumed duties of stationmaster on september 1. named postmaster when post office established on november 1, 1879. @ time name changed dundee, after city of dundee, scotland. reason name change lost history, although known stationmaster/postmaster g. foils (whose first name lost history) made change. scottish company known dundee improvement company financing construction of elevator, general store, , hotel in nearby kinbrae, , perhaps mr. foils thought attract investment in dundee. first business opened in spring of 1880 f. d. lindquist , h. a. scherlie. several homes built in second year, real growth dundee did not occur until late-nineties when country began recover panic of 1893. census taken on december 23, 1897, gave village population of 187. @ time, citizens petitioned incorporation, , on january 4, 1898, county commissioners granted request. special election held on february 15, , on march 11, 1898, dundee council met first time. f. d. lindquist named village president.
