the dial proposes model of universe. against background of stars, sun (the large gilded star on outer ring) moves in circle, , indicates time using 24-hour analogue dial, marked in roman numerals xii, xii again. noon @ top of dial reflecting position of sun in sky @ time.
in corners, 4 angels hold 4 cardinal winds. these may generating power makes universe operate.
the minutes indicated smaller star on ring inside.
the inner circle shows moon. pointer indicates age of moon, between 1 , 30 days. black , white disk above centre shows moon s phase. white disk rotates once in synodic month. inscription around moon phase indicator says sphericus archetypum globus hic monstrat microcosmum, translates spherical globe here shows archetypal microcosm. howgrave-graham suggests scribe erroneously put microcosmum, when macrocosmum more obvious word. opposite moon circle weighted pivoted disc, containing small painting of phoebe, representing moon. inscription reads: sic peragrat phobe, or progresses phoebe.
at centre of dial, ball represents earth, , clouds suggest same.
above clock , right figure, known jack blandifers, hits bell hammer held in right hand , 2 bells hung beneath him heels. set of jousting knights chase each other every 15 minutes.
