the regiment has origin in Ångermanland, medelpad , jämtland regiment raised in 1646. 1689 on, regiment named jämtland dragoon regiment, had 1 company of cavalry troops. company semi-separate, name jämtland cavalry company (jämtlands kavallerikompani) , had been split off bohus-jämtland cavalry squadron in 1670. company renamed jämtlands hästjägarskvadron in 1802 , after receiving squadron organized battalion , renamed jämtlands hästjägarkår in 1834.
the corps gained full status separate unit in 1853 , given designation k 8 (8th cavalry regiment). renamed norrland dragoon regiment in 1892 , when merged parts of crown prince s hussar regiment in 1927 redesignated k 4 kept name before being reorganized battalion , renamed norrland s dragoons in 1958. regiment renamed old name in 1980.
