under direction of assistant secretary, office of youth development (oyd) has policy oversight , support responsibilities state programs youth adjudicated delinquent , many youth , families ruled in need of services courts of juvenile jurisdiction. oyd staff support administrative remedy procedure , disciplinary appeal processes juveniles , perform quality assurance activities juvenile institutions.
additionally, division of youth services (dys) provides probation , parole supervision , coordinates both residential , non-residential treatment services delinquent youth , status offenders , families. dys has offices located in alexandria, baton rouge, harvey, hammond, lafayette, lake charles, monroe, natchitoches, new orleans, opelousas, shreveport, tallulah, , thibodaux. of may 30, 2003, there 6476 youth under supervision – 5630 adjudicated delinquents , 846 fins (families in need of services).
