formation, eps , schmack! (1999–2005)

steriogram formed in june of year 1999 brad carter , jake adams, 2 friends whangarei, joined tyson kennedy , tim youngson, 2 friends auckland. started performing melodic rock four-piece band manic live show. released ep soccerstar in december year. had 3 tracks, chiqboom , soccerstar , aeroplane . 500 copies made.

their second recording, white trash , released in august 2001, more successful. b-side soccerstar . made video white trash drummer kennedy rapping , got exposure decided should stop drumming , move front of stage rap. recruited mutual friend jared wrennall balclutha, drummer , became five-piece. started writing more of songs hip hop influence. steriogram toured new zealand in friend s van without support crew, doing gigs could.

in 2002, still unsigned, joined several other new zealand bands in inaugural boost mobile school s tour, playing free during high school lunch hours exposure, @ bars @ night. during tour released ep sing night away, contained 5 tracks: sing night away , free , big lady loving , white trash (dlt remix) , west side! . videos made songs sing night away , free .

while recording @ rented beach house in 2002 contacted scout american label capitol records, had come upon music video white trash on website nzmusic.com, , signed capitol records later year. 2004 saw release of debut album schmack!. in addition white trash , 5 more tracks released singles: walkie talkie man , roadtrip , go , tsunami , on , on . 3 songs sing night away featured on singles album: sing night away , free , big lady loving .

there 2 main factors contributing steriogram’s immediate success. first, national school tour helped generate wider fan base. other factor internet site , use of fans loyalty. on site fans able join band’s newsletter , known fan street pack . sent fan via mail , contained promo cds had 5 of tracks featured on upcoming cd, , lots of stickers. steriogram relied on support of fans, hand out promo cds , stickers. these points proved successful , rewarding steriogram new band.

their big break came release of walkie talkie man , used ipod advertisements, , music video, in characters , objects created knitting puppets , animating them using stopmotion. video, directed michel gondry, nominated 4 mtv music awards. song debuted @ no. 19 on uk singles chart. used in several films , video games including elite beat agents , mvp baseball 2004.

the band toured new zealand during new zealand music month in may 2005 support of other new zealand bands 48may , goodnight nurse. in 2005, album schmack! re-released special edition containing 3 songs sing night away , cover of ac/dc s in black .

this not target market (2006 - 2009)

the band recorded album not target market @ york street studio in auckland , released in new zealand on 16 october 2006. unlike first album, not released under capitol records. in interview juice tv, band members brad carter , tyson kennedy stated band s connections @ capitol had left since release of schmack!, , decided easier release new album themselves. first single off album . rock ridge music released album in united states in october 2007. release of not target market band toured extensively through year such bands rise against , german band die Ärzte. steriogram went on road bad religion in june 2008.

taping radio , after (2010–2014)

steriogram s third album, taping radio, released on 18 september 2010 on itunes, , subsequently made available in new zealand stores on 2 november 2010.

steriogram had been working on movie titled life , death of steriogram, rock-u-mentary delves world of new zealand s biggest rock band, steriogram, providing behind scenes @ new tour , obstacles face try scrape themselves, once again, top of rock , roll pile. kickstarter fundraiser set on 9 december 2011, in order raise funds finish film. however, on 5 january 2012, fundraiser cancelled $2,570 of $22,000 goal raised, , project appears have been scrapped.

since 2011, band members have gone on perform in other projects , pursue other careers; brad carter has gone on start no , pistol youth , tyson kennedy has created hair product entitled fatboy putty , (and kept hair of 2012 presidential candidate mitt romney in order election , media moments), , jared wrenall played drums singer miriam clancy. jared wrenall fronts nz rock band dead favours. tyson , jake living in new york, whilst brad living in los angeles, california, , jared , tim still located in auckland, new zealand, seemed suggest band had ended. however, on 5 june 2014, photo posted band s official facebook page showing boys having drink after hard day in studio implying have been working on new music.
