History 42 Lomasney Way



construction of causeway street elevated, 42 lowell street on left


located on 9 hundred square feet of land west of td garden, building constructed in 1870s @ 42 lowell street. during 1880 census, 4 families recorded living there, added twenty residents. when built, building constructed alongside thirty similar brownstones, none of survive day. on years, building recorded having upwards of fifty residents, including immigrants ireland, china, , russia. in 1892, building survived stove flare on second floor, , survived fire on first floor in 1905. in 1911, causeway street elevated constructed right in front of building.


during 1950s, west end considered blighted, , proposals drawn redevelop neighborhood. already, multiple buildings along row had been demolished, either put in road or parking lot. multiple stories exist why building not demolished, including strings being pulled city officials, or protests residents of building.


following redevelopment of west end, building occupied time associate of angiulo brothers, leading gang in north end until winter hill gang decided run rackets in area. since then, building has been purchased , redeveloped private owner. city of boston estimates property s value @ $700,000 of 2015. building has been compared 2009 film due similarities between house in film , building.
