smith retired wheelchair athletics in 2002. after two-year break, took wheelchair rugby socially , @ end of first season won new south wales state league valuable player award , national league best new talent. in 2006, represented australia first time in wheelchair rugby @ canada cup international tournament. member of australian mixed team won silver medal in wheelchair rugby @ 2008 beijing games . after beijing, retired player continued assistant coach. came out of retirement in 2010 , re-selected australian squad in 2011. australian flag bearer @ 2012 london games, , part of team won gold medal. retired after games still has active interest in sport.
