india has quasi federal form of government, called union or central government, elected officials @ union, state , local levels. on national level, head of government, prime minister, appointed president of india amongst party won majority seats in lok sabha. members of union legislature, parliament, directly elected. elections in india take place every 5 years universal adult suffrage through first-past-the-post voting system .


india largest democracy in world, around 834 million eligible voters, of 2014.
