on march 1, 1892, decision reached in state v luke short. short found guilty of aggravated assault against charles wright, , fine of $150 assessed against him. on september 7, 1892, heavyweight championship fight between john l. sullivan , james j. corbett held @ olympic club in new orleans. short , friend charles bassett @ ringside. there mutual friend bat masterson, acting timekeeper corbett. masterson , short had placed bets on corbett, while bassett bet money on sullivan. gathering @ sullivan-corbett fight last time trio got together.
