the council of ministers remains in power during pleasure of president. however, in practice, council of ministers must retain support of lok sabha. if president dismiss council of ministers on or own initiative, might trigger constitutional crisis. thus, in practice, council of ministers cannot dismissed long holds support of majority in lok sabha.

the president, head of state receives credentials of ambassadors other countries, whilst prime minister, head of government, receives credentials of high commissioners other members of commonwealth, in line historical tradition.
