ny 531 s western terminus @ ny 36


eastbound ny 531 begins @ ny 31 half-mile (0.8 km) west of northern terminus of ny 36. ny 531 heads southeast brockport–spencerport road (ny 31), following one-lane ramp east ny 36. shortly before intersecting washington street (ny 36) @ at-grade intersection, ramp widens 2 lanes. @ ny 36, ny 531 westbound terminates, forcing commuters exit onto ny 36. past junction ny 36, ny 531 becomes four-lane limited-access highway, passing through open fields heads east through rural ogden.


directly south of spencerport, ny 531 encounters south union street (ny 259) way of diamond interchange bordered on both sides small housing tracts. roadway continues eastward, reentering open , undeveloped areas of town. heads past farmland 2 miles (3.2 km) before turning southward short distance east of overpass carrying gillett road. ny 531 proceeds due south 0.75 miles (1.21 km), passing on lyell road @ midpoint of segment, before returning east–west alignment ahead of manitou road exit, ny 531 crosses town of gates.


between manitou road , elmgrove road (ny 386), ny 531 flanked on both sides frontage roads 1.08-mile (1.74 km) in length. ny 531 eastbound connects manitou road, ny 386, , rochester tech park solely way of south frontage road, designated ny 946e, while north frontage road, designated ny 946f, acts collection road separate ramps ny 386 , manitou road ny 531 westbound. both frontage road designations unsigned reference routes; in fact, reference markers along 2 roads display 531 route number instead of respective designations. westbound exit rochester tech park, standalone two-lane ramp splits ny 531 short distance west of ny 386 overpass, has no connection north frontage road.


west of ny 386, expressway expands 3 lanes eastbound leaves heavily commercialized , industrialized area around elmgrove , manitou roads , enters narrow, wooded area bordered homes north. not far east, ny 531 comes end @ modified directional t interchange i-490. heading eastbound, 2 leftmost lanes connect ny 531 i-490 eastbound while right lane links i-490 westbound 0.25 miles (0.40 km) north of i-490 s modified cloverleaf interchange ny 33.
