headquarters of general san martín regiment of mounted grenadiers, located in palermo section of buenos aires. built in vienna secession style in 1907, declared national historic monument in 1997.


in 1903, regiment reinstated , 4 years later re-appointed presidential honor guard.


the unit has never seen combat ever since, although during falklands war 8 conscripts , 2 first corporals regiment seconded units in falklands , 2 wounded in combat. adhoc troop regiment, planned deployment, placed on reserve in mainland.

at present, regiment acts presidential honor guard regiment , fulfills ceremonial protocol functions. caretaker of casa rosada, argentine presidential palace @ eastern end of famous plaza de mayo. regiment takes on ceremonial , security duties @ various residences of president of argentina nationwide.


the regiment mounts guard @ buenos aires metropolitan cathedral, founder s remains buried, , @ palace of argentine national congress.
