ricciardo failed finish in malaysian grand prix, managed record first points of 2014 season @ bahrain grand prix, finished fourth, after starting in 13th position. winning @ canadian grand prix, ricciardo became fourth australian win grand prix in formula one, joining jack brabham, alan jones , mark webber. victory in canada broke chain of 6 mercedes victories marked beginning of 2014 season. ricciardo impressed many beating vettel throughout first half of 2014 season, , after clean , tight battle between ricciardo , fernando alonso @ german grand prix, alonso described ricciardo unbelievable , very, smart, respectful .


ricciardo won hungarian grand prix on 27 july, ahead of alonso , lewis hamilton. in third place behind alonso , hamilton less 4 laps remaining , overtook hamilton s mercedes pass on outside of hungaroring s turn 2. caught , passed alonso s ferrari had little grip left on tyres – television footage of left front tyre after race showed badly blistered. in final 2 laps, ricciardo pulled away win race 5.225 seconds. teammate vettel survived spin coming onto main straight late in race finish seventh. ricciardo became second australian win hungarian grand prix, after mark webber s victory – red bull – in 2010. ricciardo went on score third victory of career go back in belgium, become first australian win there since jack brabham in 1960, making him non-mercedes driver have won grand prix in 2014.


on 4 october 2014, announced ricciardo partner daniil kvyat 2015 season, following announcement of vettel s departure team. in first season red bull racing, ricciardo confirmed third place in drivers championship @ brazilian grand prix, despite being first retirement since malaysian grand prix. in final race of season, abu dhabi grand prix, despite starting pit lane due front wing infringement, ricciardo finished in fourth place , secured first fastest lap of formula 1 career. 2014 performances, ricciardo won laureus world sports award breakthrough of year in april 2015.
