the nintendo 3ds home menu of system version 9.3.0-21. upper screen displays 3d animated logo each individual app, while bottom screen displays application icons.

similarly nintendo dsi, menu has updateable firmware. on april 25, 2012, system update brought introduction of folder system, allows users put applications inside folders. on june 20, 2013, system update brought introduction of save data backup feature, allows user save data downloadable nintendo 3ds software , virtual console games. update released on october 30, 2014 enable players download custom themes home menu, based on various nintendo titles.

camera

nintendo 3ds camera built-in photo , video recorder integrated media gallery , photo editing functionality. app uses system s 2 front-facing cameras take 3d photos, , user-facing camera take regular 2d photos. photographs taken @ resolution of 640 x 480 px (vga), or 0.3 megapixels. there various options , filters available when taking photos or recording video. there low-light option, useful when taking photos , recording video in low lighting conditions.

on december 7, 2011, system update added ability record 3d video along special recording options, such ability make stop motion animations. recording modes allow single video 10 minutes long.

sound

nintendo 3ds sound built-in music player , sound recorder. supported filename extensions include mp3 audio .mp3 , aac audio .mp4, .m4a, or .3gp. audio files can played sd card, visualizations displayed on upper screen. music can played while console closed, using system s headphone jack. set of sound manipulation options available, several audio filters. ten-second voice recordings can recorded , edited. these can shared throughout other applications such swapnote. there streetpass function built-into app, users exchange song data make compatibility chart between them.

multitasking

the nintendo 3ds capable of suspending application , run 1 of 6 multitasking applications. once game or application running, user can press home button suspend , temporarily open home menu. possible open specially designed multitasking application built system without closing suspended software. attempting open game or application while running result in warning prompt. these multitasking applications include:

game notes, allows users write , save notes, screenshots both screens of current suspended software present aid user.
friend list, list of registered friends, information such current status current/favorite application; 100 friends can registered exchanging friend codes or using local option.
notifications, whilst receiving notifications top led light flash either blue or green, depending if spotpass or streetpass notification, respectively.
internet browser
