early immigration

the earliest recorded presence of filipinos in today united states when in october 1587 mariners under spanish command landed in morro bay, california. earliest permanent filipino american residents arrived in americans in 1763, later creating settlements in mississippi river delta such saint malo, manila village in barataria bay, louisiana, , 4 others in plaquemines , jefferson parishes. these settlements composed of formerly pressed sailors escaping duty aboard spanish galleons , discovered harper s weekly journalist in 1883. furthermore, these settlements first longstanding asian american settlements in united states. last of these, manila village, survived until 1965 when destroyed hurricane betsy. additional 2,000 documented in new orleans roots dating hundred years, first being augustin feliciano of bicol; others later came manila, cavite, ilocos, camarines, zamboanga, zambales, leyte, samar, antique, bulacan, bohol, cagayan, , surigao.
