Methodology Jobs created during U.S. presidential terms







the job numbers estimates generated via survey of thousands of businesses. sample establishments drawn private nonfarm businesses such factories, offices, , stores, federal, state, , local government entities. employees on nonfarm payrolls received pay part of reference pay period (which includes 12th of month), including persons on paid leave.


as of 2005, sample includes 160,000 businesses , government agencies covering approximately 400,000 individual worksites. these monthly job counts revised (sometimes 20% or more) within 90 days reflect additional data, seasonal adjustment models, , annual adjustments resulting unemployment insurance filings.


the numbers generated bls total employment, , new jobs numbers cited change in total employment. thus, reflect net new jobs , not attempt estimate absolute number of new jobs. in measurement period, if productivity improvement eliminated need 100,000 jobs , business activity caused need 100,000 new positions, bls numbers reflect 0 new jobs. real unemployment rate measured u-6 figure.
