on 20 june, british retook south sandwich islands , declared hostilities on after removing argentina s southern thule garrison @ corbeta uruguay base. corbeta uruguay established in 1976, argentine base contested through diplomatic channels uk until 1982.


the war lasted 74 days, 255 british , 649 argentine soldiers, marines, sailors, , airmen, , 3 civilian falklanders killed.


the british government decreed classified information available public in year 2082. however, following freedom of information act, great deal of formerly classified material available.


the surrender document on display @ imperial war museum in london. noted in museum, time of surrender backdated 3 hours in order both zulu time (utc) , local time recorded 14 june though technically 15 june in london, in order prevent possible confusion argentine troops might have mistakenly thought permitted keep fighting until next day, 15 june 1982.


relations between uk , argentina not restored until 1989 , under umbrella formula states islands sovereignty dispute remain aside.
