busy bee went bankrupt in 1992 , norwegian air shuttle took on braathens safe s regional routes. braathens safe , aeroflot introduced flights murmansk airport in russia 1993, , same year sas started flights london. domestic aviation market deregulated on 1 april 1994. led braathens establish 2 direct flights per day oslo, first time competing sas on same route out of tromsø. meanwhile, sas commuter started services bodø , trondheim.


the banana becoming small , caa initiated major upgrade program airport. runway extended 240 meters (790 ft) in 1995 , following year new control tower opened. new terminal building opened on 31 october 1997. included 3 jetbridges , used jet services. old terminal used regional , international services. operations building opened in 1999, completing renovation.


sas bought braathens in 2002 , became sas braathens in 2004. norwegian reorganized low-cost carrier. new launch on 1 september 2002, opened tromsø oslo service boeing 737-300. in december 2007 launched weekly service london stansted airport. nextjet started triangular route between tromsø, luleå , oulu on 12 january 2015.
