the flag of brooklyn has white background seal @ center. within seal image of goddess of justice set on background of light blue, , bearing fasces, traditional emblem of unity. fasces composed of 6 rods, representing 6 towns of original dutch settlement. encircling image ring of dark blue , old dutch phrase een draght maekt maght (modern dutch: eendracht maakt macht ) translates english unity makes strength . in darker ring words borough of brooklyn . outside , inside trim of seal gold-colored. primary colors of seal reflect recognized colors of borough, blue , gold.
