congressional attendance

voters asked whether approved of popular initiative amend constitution regarding payment of members of national congress. proposed amendment of article ix, section 8 have read:



the compensation of members of olbiil era kelulau shall uniform fee each day member attends official session of olbiil era kelulau. amount of fee shall determined law. no increase in compensation shall apply members of olbiil era kelulau during term of enactment, nor may increase in compensation enacted in period between date of regular general election , date new olbiil era kelulau takes office.

a popular initiative proposed amending constitution limit number of terms member of national congress serve three. text read:



no person shall serve member of olbiil era kelulau more 3 terms; provided however, person elected member of olbiil era kelulau in regular general election in amendment adopted shall entitle serve four-year or elected regardless of number of previous terms served.




joint election of president , vice president

a popular initiative proposed amending constitution elect president , vice president rather separately. amend article viii, section 4 of constitution read:



the president , vice president shall elected in nationwide election term of 4 (4) years. president , vice president shall chosen jointly casting each voter of single vote applicable both offices. person may not serve president more 2 consecutive terms.




dual citizenship

a popular initiative proposed amending constitution allow palauan citizens hold dual citizenship, , give citizenship @ birth people palauan parents. proposed wording was:



a person born of parent, 1 or both of whom of recognized palauan ancestry, citizenship shall not affect person s palauan citizenship, nor shall person of recognized palauan ancestry required renounce united states citizenship become naturalized citizen of palau. persons of other foreign nations may retain palauan citizenship or become naturalized palauan citizens provided law. palauan citizen may renounce palauan citizenship. renouncements made prior effective date of amendment not affected amendment.
