early years

ostrzolek s parents emigrated polish region of silesia , settled in bochum. ostrzolek born on 5 june 1990 in bochum , grew in district of langendreer.

international career

in 2007, ostrzolek played in 2 matches u-17 national team of poland against lithuania. did not receive further call-ups poland national teams , later chose represent germany @ youth level.

on 21 march 2011 ostrzolek first invited u-21 national team of germany, when nominated coach rainer adrion friendlies against netherlands , italy. on 25 march 2011 @ 3 1 win in sittard-geleen substitute against netherlands in 22nd minute shervin radjabali-fardi. 4 days later came in replace 2–2 draw against italy in kassel in 83rd minute İlkay gündoğan. matthias ostrzolek qualified u-21 national team germany european under-21 football championships 2013. team won in qualifying win group , eliminated in play-off against switzerland; 1–1 draw in first leg in bayarena in leverkusen followed 3–1 victory in second leg in lucerne. ostrzolek did not play in play-off. on march 24, 2013 ostrzolek played last time u-21 team of germany when @ 2–1 victory in friendly match against israel in tel aviv in 19th minute came in replace tony jantschke. on 16 may 2013 not nominated in preliminary squad u-21 football championship in 2013.

in december 2013, representatives polish football association (pzpn) contacted ostrzolek playing senior national team of poland. according ostrzolek, first contact polish football officials since brief stint u-17 team. ostrzolek stated proud represent either poland or germany , need more time decide. own admission, can understand in polish cannot express himself flawlessly in language.

ahead of euro 2016 qualifying match between poland , germany in october 2014, german newspaper bild reported ostrzolek still had not decided on national team future. player stated, “i still haven’t decided between germany , poland. don’t know national team play.”
