kashyap born in fremont, california in 1960. graduated mission san jose high school in 1978 , attended university of california @ davis. graduated davis in 1982 highest honors, being elected phi beta kappa in 1981. majored in economics , statistics.

kashyap worked research assistant @ federal reserve board of governors 1982 until 1984. after finishing graduate school, returned , worked staff economist 1988 until 1991. in both spells worked in research , statistics division in section of maintained staff large scale econometric model.

kashyap graduate student @ massachusetts institute of technology in department of economics 1984 until 1988 – , completed phd in 1989. worked teaching assistant rudiger dornbusch , stanley fischer. chair of dissertation committee olivier blanchard; fischer , james poterba other advisors. while @ mit, introduced number of students whom collaborate, including ricardo caballero, takeo hoshi, gary loveman, raghuram rajan, david scharfstein, jeremy stein , david wilcox.

kashyap moved business school (then graduate school of business, booth school of business) @ chicago in 1991 , promoted associate professor (1993) , full professor (1996), before receiving chair in 2003. while @ booth has taught mba courses on money , banking, japanese economy, developing business strategy japan, understanding central banks , analyzing financial crises. has won school-wide teaching award voted mba students , dean’s prize exceptional service.

kashyap 1 of founding directors of chicago booth initiative on global markets (igm). part of igm activities helped create igm economic experts panel. panel includes leading economists berkeley, chicago, harvard, mit, princeton, stanford , yale answer periodic public policy questions. others have analyzed responses these questions determine issues on economists agree each other. public can answer questions see panelists’ opinions similar own.

under auspices of igm, co-founded monetary policy forum. conference has become 1 of leading conferences regarding monetary policy in world.
