in gaza, desalinated brackish groundwater has become important source of drinking water. on 20,000 consumers in on 50% of gaza households have installed domestic ‘reverse osmosis’ (ro) units desalinate water drinking purposes. water quality high, though water lacks basic minerals. of january 2014, there 18 neighborhood desalination plants in gaza strip, providing safe drinking water free 95,000 people come fill canisters @ plants. 13 of these plants operated unicef.


in 2009, approximately 100 industrial desalination plants operational. due israeli blockade of gaza strip, import of spare parts – essential operate desalination plants of industry, communities , households – necessary chemicals, problematic.
