the william montgomery house designed architect stephen hills, designed first pennsylvania state capitol building, in 1803. house owned william montgomery, prominent, local attorney. house bought in 1960 next-door watt & shand department store, vacated after store closed in 1995.


when lancaster county convention center constructed in late 2000s, house preserved externally , feature in attached lancaster marriott s main lobby. in 2012 project began renovate interior high-end meeting spaces. newly branded montgomery mansion slated open in november 2013.
