Image stabilizer Canon EF lens mount

the image-stabilized canon ef 300mm f/4l usm lens

the image stabilization (is) technology detects handheld motion , optically corrects it. corrects handheld motion; if subject of photograph moving, not stop it. can stabilize motion, ranging 2 5 stops, depending on specific in lens. canon has released several versions of system, including following:

the first version, first used in 75-300mm lens (1995), takes approximately 1 second stabilize, provides approximately 2 stops of stability, not suitable use on tripod, or panning.
the 300mm f/4l usm lens, released in 1997, adds mode 2, detects whether panning taking place horizontally or vertically, , compensates vibration in plane perpendicular plane of panning.
in 1999, release of super-telephoto lenses (300mm f/2.8l through 600mm f/4l), tripod detection added, lens used on tripod turned on.
in 2001, new version of image stabilizer created 70–200mm f/2.8l. version takes approximately 0.5s , can stabilized 3 stops.
in 2006, 70–200 mm f/4l usm released image stabilizer allows 4 stops of stabilization.
in 2008, 200mm f/2l usm released new version of allows 5 stops of stabilization.
in 2009, 100 mm f/2.8l macro usm became first canon lens hybrid image stabilizer. in addition correcting angular movement, hybrid corrects shift movement.
in 2011, release of 300mm f/2.8l ii , 400mm f/2.8l ii, mode 3 added. mode similar mode 2, except stabilization applied when shutter released.
some newer lenses include image stabilizer can automatically detect whether user panning , respond accordingly, , therefore these lenses not have mode switch.

all ef lenses support have words image stabilizer written on lens. on of canon s larger telephoto lenses, words image stabilizer etched onto metal plate affixed lens.
