gogan selected dallas cowboys in 8 round of 1987 nfl draft, part of change in offensive line philosophy, when team started value size , strength on speed , athletic ability. became starter @ right tackle rookie, when phil pozderac announced retirement in week 6 of season.


on august 3, 1988, suspended 30 days marijuana use. attitude , intensity earned him nickname big nasty .


in 1990, relegated reserve role after nate newton named starter @ right tackle. next year, switched positions , became starter @ left guard, replacing crawford ker, left team via plan b free agency.


in 1992, became backup after nate newton moved left guard, in order accommodate erik williams starter. next year, beat out john gesek starter @ right guard.


his role in 1 of greatest offensive lines in nfl history detailed in nfl network s 2013 football life: great wall of dallas .


before start of 1994 season, 4 of cowboys offensive linemen free agents, management focused on resigning newton. gogan opted leave , replaced derek kennard.


los angeles/oakland raiders

in 1994, signed free agent los angeles raiders, named starter @ right guard. three-year starter , received first pro bowl selection.


san francisco 49ers

in 1997, signed free agent san francisco 49ers , although didn t fit team s offensive line scheme, received pro bowl honors 2 years in row. in 1998, helped garrison hearst set team rushing record 1,549 yards , received second-team all-pro honors.


during fourth-quarter of 1998 pro bowl, neil smith took offense @ gogan going legs during running play. gogan returned huddle, smith hit him on of helmet, resulted in first pro bowl ejections since game moved hawaii in 1980.


the 49ers had salary cap problems , traded him miami dolphins in exchange seventh round draft choice, on april 28, 1999.

in 1999, reunited former head coach jimmy johnson. acquired intention of playing left guard, because of play of mark dixon moved right side. ended in platoon situation kevin donnalley, alternating starts.

san diego chargers
