early radio career

gibney first started out in radio @ ktab, (now ksfo) in san francisco, california. announcer there. in march 1935, gibney relocated portland, oregon joined announcing staff of both portland-based radio stations kgw, (now kpoj) , kex. gibney s first noted announcing job kex broadcast of homecoming of oregon national guard fort lewis on june 25, 1935. joined van fleming , larry keating.

gibney began announcing on weekly basis first time first broadcast of radio series safeway circus court on november 2, 1935. series came on kgw. stay program until left kgw in january 1936. safeway finished run on february 8, 1936.

move nbc

on january 16, 1936, gibney left kgw, kex , portland altogether , went san francisco joined nbc-affiliated station kpo, (now knbr). first major job there part of cast of nbc salutes kgw, tribute kgw in many former and, @ time present, cast members celebrated kgw s unveiling of 625-foot tower. former employees @ celebration included keating, fleming, helen kleeb, archie presby, jane burns, harry anderson, larry allen, mary alice moynihan, glen hurlbert & dave drummond. special aired on august 14, 1937.

gibney left kpo in july 1939 , began working nbc radio , radio city in hollywood. @ point, gibney became official west coast announcer nbc.

within year, gibney heard announcing red network s hawthorne house , standard symphony. heard on blue network s speaking of glamour , capt. flagg & sgt. quirt both premiered in 1941.

career during military

on july 8, 1942, gibney enlisted in military. became private in u.s. army air corps. while in service, gibney continued career announcer on radio broadcasting shows west coast training center in santa ana, california. of show s produced during time in military included all-army cast.

on january 28, 1946, gibney discharged radio production unit of army air corps , returned hollywood.

career after military

upon return hollywood, gibney got work. went jimmie fidler , began announcing 2 new shows; names of tomorrow finding stardom today in 1947 , single season dorothy lamour show in 1948.

dragnet

on june 3, 1949; nbc radio premiere 1 of memorable radio programs of time , program called dragnet. start of whole franchise included 2 films , 4 television series. series starred jack webb detective sgt. joe friday , barton yarborough sgt. ben romero. gibney shared announcing responsibilities along george fenneman.

gibney stayed show until end on radio on february 26, 1957.

gibney served announcer penny singleton show. series premiered summer replacement series on may 30, 1950 on nbc radio. series starred penny singleton, jim backus , gale gordon. announcer entire two-year run of tales of texas rangers starring joel mccrea.

on september 23, 1953, gibney began announcing memorable radio program; 6 shooter. series starred james stewart britt ponset, drifting cowboy during final years of wild west.
