on 30 june 2011, ricciardo contracted hispania racing red bull racing, replacing narain karthikeyan remaining races of 2011 season except indian grand prix, allow karthikeyan race @ home grand prix. ricciardo made grand prix debut @ 2011 british grand prix @ silverstone.


however, on 22 october 2011, few days before inaugural indian grand prix, race karthikeyan due gain seat home race, hrt f1 announced vitantonio liuzzi made way karthikeyan, allowing ricciardo race in india , extend learning curve red bull racing paid struggling spanish team do, allowing karthikeyan race in front of home fans. in abu dhabi, ricciardo retired mechanical problems after starting 20th on grid , in final race @ brazilian grand prix, ricciardo finished 20th after starting 22nd on grid.
