hydropower

close 90% of verbund energy in austria originates hydropower. verbund operates 20 storage power plants , 88 run-of-river plants in austria; these plants located in alpine regions of salzburg, tyrol, carinthia , styria, along major rivers such inn, danube, enns , drau rivers. verbund s total installed capacity in hydropower plants 6,600 megawatt; average annual generation 24.8 billion kwh altogether. in mid-2009, result of verbund s acquisition of 13 run-of-river plants on river inn in bavaria, germany, power generation rose 7%; together, bavarian inn power plants have peak capacity of 312 megawatt , annual generation of 1.85 billion kw hours.


thermal power

verbund 1 of largest producers of electricity in area of thermal power, 1 of largest district heating providers in austria. annual generation amounts approx. 4 billion kwh of electricity , 900 million kwh of heat. 3 of altogether 9 verbund thermal power plants - , without combined heat , power/cogeneration - in operation: dürnrohr, mellach und neudorf-werndorf ii. together, have installed capacity of 815 megawatt. currently, new combined cycle gas turbine power plant being erected @ mellach, scheduled completion 2011, electrical peak capacity of 832 megawatt , thermal peak capacity of 250 megawatt. annual output approx. 5 billion kwh of electricity , 800 million kwh of district heating.


wind power

since 2009, verbund has been operating 3 wind farms in austria, in bruck der leitha, hollern , petronell-carnuntum, total installed capacity of 49 mw. further wind farms planned or in construction in bulgaria , romania. in spain, verbund operates 2 photovoltaic plants.
