swapnote (known nintendo letter box in europe , australia) messaging application nintendo 3ds. swapnote released on december 21, 2011 in japan , on december 22 in europe, australia , north america, via nintendo eshop. application free , pre-installed on newer systems. allows users send hand-written/drawn messages registered friends via spotpass either or other users via streetpass. app allows users freely embed pictures , sounds messages.

on october 31, 2013, nintendo abruptly suspended swapnote/nintendo letter box spotpass functionality after discovering minors sharing friend codes strangers had exploited messaging service allegedly exchange pornographic imagery.

mii maker

mii maker system application allows users create mii characters through either selection of facial , body features, such nose, mouth, eyes, hair, among other, or taking photo using system s cameras , auto-generate personal mii. mii characters can added , shared reading special qr codes 1 of cameras. possible import mii characters wii or wii u system. however, mii created on nintendo 3ds systems cannot exported wii due addition of character parts in mii maker not present on wii s mii channel. restriction, however, not applied when exporting mii nintendo 3ds wii u system.
