battle of baghdad: along banks of tigris, buyid forces under mu izz al-dawla defeat hamdanids control of city. forced pay tax revenues , agree recognize al-muti legitimate caliph.

japan

may 16 – emperor suzaku abdicates throne after 16-year reign. succeeded brother murakami, becomes 62nd emperor of japan.
