southwark metropolitan borough wards in 1916


when constituency created, defined include 3 whole wards of metropolitan borough of southwark (st mary s, st paul s , trinity) small section of st george s ward. formed area in 2 main parts linked narrow strip of land around elephant , castle. southern section, between kennington park road , walworth road, including st mary , st paul wards, entirely residential. stretched kennington park , avenue road, being southern boundary of borough. around elephant , castle area constituency included newington butts , metropolitan tabernacle, @ narrowest point 100 yards between western boundary on newington causeway , eastern boundary on railway line through elephant & castle railway station.


north of elephant , castle, constituency turned east , included second area of newington between new kent road , newington causeway in trinity ward. southern boundary of part of constituency continued along new kent road divide st george s ward along , tower bridge road borough boundary bermondsey. northern part of trinity ward, north of wickham place, not included. constituency s last mp, future chancellor roy jenkins, described postage stamp-sized .
