in july 2008, correction officers @ usp lewisburg expressed concerns underfunding. on past 4 years, union leaders , other officials had been lobbying in attempt quell staff reductions , cutting costs. federal bureau of prisons had proposed $143 million in possible spending cuts, including not replacing vehicles , equipment, eliminating overtime, reducing corrections officer training, , possible cut in officer staff positions. under such conditions, many of correctional officers expressed concerns own safety.
