early years

hoffman came in 12th in 10k in 2008 junior world championships.

hoffman debuted in fis world cup @ vancouver in january 2009, placing 25th in 30 km skiathlon. first european appearance in world cup @ 2010–11 season opener in gällivare, placed 31st in 15 km freestyle, missing out on points finish.

he represented united states @ 2011 world championships in oslo, norway, hoffman placed 14th in men s 4x10k relay, 29th in 15 km classic, , 30th in 50 km freestyle mass start.

2012–13

hoffman opened 2012–13 season well, placing career-best 19th in second stage of nordic opening @ ruka, 10 km freestyle race; went on place 26th in final standings of ruka triple. scored first top 10 finish 2 weeks later @ canmore, placing 8th in 30 km skiathlon. hoffman completed first tour de ski, finishing 46th best stage finish of 17th in final climb. came in 8th in 4x10k relay in 2012 world cup in nove mesto, czechoslovakia. came in second in 15k cl @ u23 2012 world championships, highest finish ever american @ u23 world championships.

hoffman won 2012 u.s. championship title in 30k cl, in rumford, maine.

at 2013 world championships in val di fiemme, italy, hoffman improved on results 2 years before. finished strong place 15th in 15 km freestyle, best world championship result date. in 50 km classic mass start placed 27th after going five-man breakaway. top american in both races. placed 10th in 4x10k relay.

hoffman narrowly qualified first world cup final in falun, sweden, scoring 7 world cup points @ last opportunity (a 50 km freestyle mass start @ oslo) move 47th in world cup overall standings top 50 qualified final weekend. finished 48th in overall world cup , 36th in distance world cup.

2013–14

hoffman underwent shoulder surgery in off-season, hoping eliminate recurring shoulder dislocation problem. placed career-best 9th in season-opening ruka triple, being fastest skier in final stage (a 15 km freestyle pursuit) , receiving maximum 50 world cup points stage win. hoffman had fastest time on day during 35 km pursuit during tour de ski.

hoffman represented united states @ 2014 winter olympics in sochi, russia, , came in 11th in men s 4x10k relay, 26th in men s 50k freestyle mass start, 31st in men s 15k classic, , 35th in men s skiathlon 30k in crashed rounded 180-degree corner turn , broke ski pole.

in november 2014 hoffman crashed , broke left fibula above ankle , suffered medial collateral ligament damage when skis got caught in course fencing @ kuusamo world cup in finland. had surgery implant pins , plate near ankle repair leg.

in 2015 world ski championships in falun, sweden, placed 11th in 4x10k relay.

2015-16

in 2015-16 hoffman top distance racer in united states, won several world cup points throughout season. best result 19th in 10k freestyle race in toblach, italy. had career-best tour de ski, in finished 22nd overall in tour standings.
