the powers of legislative branch in india exercised parliament, bicameral legislature consisting of rajya sabha , lok sabha. of 2 houses of parliament, former considered upper house or council of states , consists of members appointed president , elected state , territorial legislatures. latter considered lower house or house of people.


parliament not have complete control , sovereignty, laws subject judicial review supreme court of india. however, exercise control on executive branch. members of cabinet, including prime minister , council of ministers, either chosen parliament or elected thereto within 6 months of assuming office. cabinet whole responsible lok sabha. lok sabha temporary house , can dissolved when party in power loses support of majority of house. whereas rajya sabha permanent house can never dissolved members of rajya sabha elected six-year term.
