tadpole laptops unusual in being based on sparc, alpha , powerpc, rather more common x86-based microprocessors. although expensive, these classic tadpoles won favour method show corporation s proprietary software (ibm/hp/dec) on self-contained portable device on client site in days before remote connectivity.


sparc

the original sparcbook1 introduced in 1992 8–32 mb ram , 25 mhz processor. followed several further sparcbooks, ultrabooks - , voyager iii. these ran sunos or solaris operating systems.


dec alpha

an alpha-based laptop, alphabook 1, announced on 4 december 1995 , became available in 1996. alphabook 1 manufactured in cambridge, england. used alpha 21066a microprocessor specified maximum clock frequency of 233 mhz. laptop used openvms operating system.


ibm powerpc

a powerpc-based laptop produced - ibm risc system/6000 n40 notebook workstation, powered 50mhz powerpc 601 , between 16 , 64mb ram - , designed run ibm aix.


x86-based

tadpole produced range of x86-based, including talin laptops suse linux, or optionally microsoft windows.
