the chicago blackhawks lured bollig out of university following sophomore season , signed him professional contract in 2010. blackhawks assigned him american hockey league (ahl) affiliate, rockford icehogs complete 2009–10 season; bollig made professional debut on april 6, 2010, , scored first professional goal 4 nights later against san antonio rampage. played entire 2010–11 ahl season icehogs, , remained in rockford majority of following campaign.


chicago recalled bollig late in 2011–12 nhl season serve replacement enforcer john scott, traded new york rangers. bollig made nhl debut on february 29, 2012, against toronto maple leafs; recorded first fight, against luke schenn. appeared in 18 regular season games blackhawks. held pointless, recorded 58 pim. in 2012 stanley cup playoffs, bollig appeared in 4 games in team s first round match-up against phoenix coyotes , scored first nhl goal on april 14, game-tying marker against goaltender mike smith in second game of series.


bollig returned rockford begin 2012–13 ahl season. appeared in 35 games , recorded 9 points icehogs before earning recall chicago, , 157 pim second in ahl @ time. played 25 games chicago, again held pointless, , led team 51 pim. bollig appeared in 5 post-season games, member of team when defeated boston bruins claim 2013 stanley cup championship. first native of st. louis region win cup.


the first regular season goal of bollig s career came in chicago s opening game of 2013–14 season, october 1, 2013, against braden holtby of washington capitals. in first full season in nhl, bollig appeared in 82 games chicago, scored 7 goals , added 7 assists. season transitional 1 bollig expanded on role pure enforcer , placed added focus on becoming defensive forward on chicago s fourth line. chicago signed bollig three-year contract extension worth $1.25 million per year late in season, blackhawks forced make deals remain compliant nhl salary cap in off-season. on june 28, 2014, chicago sent bollig calgary flames in exchange third round selection @ 2014 nhl entry draft.


on july 4, 2017, bollig signed free agent one-year, two-way contract worth $650,000 san jose sharks.
